Bears coaching update: Mike Tice, other coaches let go

The Chicago Bears continue to clear out their coaching staff. Here’s a look at who was let go on Thursday.

The Chicago Bears coaching staff became a little lighter on Thursday (no fat joke intended), as offensive coordinator Mike Tice was relieved of his duties, along with running backs coach Tim Spencer and offensive line coach Tim Holt.

Tice became a part of the Bears franchise back in 2010 as the offensive line coach, and he was eventually promoted after the departure of former offensive coordinator Mike Martz. After just one season as the offensive coordinator in Chicago, Tice led his team to finish with the 28th-ranked offense in the league, averaging just 310.6 yards yards per game.

Spencer was with the team since 2004, while Holt spent just a single season with the Bears. Now with a completely new staff running the show on offense in Chicago, fans can expect to see a much different scheme going forward.

New head coach Marc Trestman is known for his work with quarterbacks and has already discussed his eagerness to work with Jay Cutler. Trestman also should get right to work on the Bears’ dismal offensive line. Fans can expect several new additions in this area during the offseason.
