NFL coaching rumors tracker: Chargers, Eagles, Jaguars, Bears, Cardinals still searching for head coach

Rumors are swirling as five NFL teams are still searching for their next head coach. Here’s a list of who has interviewed who.

Black Monday saw seven NFL coaches fired after poor seasons, and in the Bears case, a 10-6 season. The playoffs are about to head into the divisional round where the conference championship matchups will be set, but for five of those seven teams, the main focus is to find a new head coach.

Here’s a list of who has interviewed who:

San Diego Chargers

The Chargers' first order of business was to hire a new general manager, which they did when they brought in Tom Telesco, who was the former Vice President of Football Operations for the Indianapolis Colts. Now that Telesco is in place, the head coaching search has begun. Bruce Arians, who coached the Colts when Chuck Pagano was out fighting leukemia, seems to be the main candidate for the job. Others that have interviewed or are rumored to interview soon are former Bears coach Lovie Smith, former Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt, Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden and Seahawks defensive coordinator Gus Bradley.

Philadelphia Eagles

After firing Andy Reid, the Eagles have interviewed, or are planning to interview, several coaches, including a couple college coaches. From the college ranks, the Eagles interviewed Oregon coach Chip Kelly and Notre Dame coach Bryan Kelly. They have also interviewed, or plan to interview, Arians, Smith, Gruden, Bradley as well as Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy and Falcons defensive coordinator Mike Nolan and special teams coach Keith Armstrong.

Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jaguars fired Mike Mularkey after just one season in which the team finished with a 2-14 record. They have interviewed, or plan to interview, Rams offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer. They also announced that they will be interviewing defensive coordinator Mel Tucker as well.

Chicago Bears

The Bears have interviewed several coaches from around the league. Those coaches include Houston offensive coordinator Rick Dennison, Bears special teams coach Dave Toub, Vikings linebackers coach Mike Singletary, Vikings special teams coach Mike Priefer, Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell, Cowboys special teams coach Joe DeCamillis, the Colts' Arians, Saints offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael, the Broncos' McCoy, Buccaneers offensive coordinator Mike Sullivan, the Falcons' Armstrong and Packers offensive coordinator Tom Clements. Bears owner has said that he wants the team to hire a new head coach by Jan. 19.

Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals have expressed interest in Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden, Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy and their own defensive coordinator Ray Horton. They were interested in former Eagles coach Andy Reid, but he was hired by the Kansas City Chiefs before he was able to make it to Phoenix for an interview.

The Browns and the Chiefs are the only two teams to hire a new coach so far this offseason. Stay tuned to SB Nation for new head coach hiring news.
