It appears that former USC Trojans defensive tackle Armond Armstead will be making his NFL debut soon. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Armstead has visited with the New England Patriots, Philadelphia Eagles and Indianapolis Colts, and could sign with a team as early as this week.

Armstead was a standout at USC in his first three seasons. He spent most of his junior year at defensive end, recording 43 tackles, six of which were for a loss (three sacks). He was set to start at defensive tackle in 2011, but his career was derailed by a heart attack before spring practice. Armstead was never medically cleared to play his senior season and then went undrafted during the 2012 NFL Draft.

Last season, Armstead signed with the Toronto Argonauts of the CFL. He shined, recording 44 tackles and six sacks to help the Argonauts to a Grey Cup championship. The Argonauts, aware of Armstead’s desire to play in the NFL, released him at the end of the season.

Schefter called Armstead “the equivalent of a high draft pick”. At 6’5, 300 pounds, Armstead has the potential to make a big impact as a defensive end in a 3-4 alignment.
