Jerry Angelo to have second GM interview with Jets

That the Jets have big problems is no secret, and the team thinks the former Bears GM might be the man to fix them.

The New York Jets are holding second interviews with general manager candidates, reports Adam Schefter. The head candidate for the job is reportedly Jerry Angelo, formerly the general manager of the Chicago Bears. Scott Cohen, currently assistant GM for the Jets, is another candidate.

Angelo was the GM for the Bears from 2001 to 2012, and was behind the trade that brought Jay Cutler over from the Denver Broncos. The Bears were 87-73 with a 3-4 playoff record during his tenure. Prior to his time with the Bears, he was the director of player personnel for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 1987 to 2000.

The Jets had a disaster of a 2012 season, one that resulted in the firing of general manager Mike Tannenbaum. The team is looking to deal Tim Tebow, has Mark Sanchez under contract for a $8.25 million guaranteed in 2013, and has seen nine coaches leave, six by choice. Undoubtedly, whoever ultimately takes the job will have his work cut out for him.
