Jets GM search: Can anyone put the house of cards in order?

Idzik helped tear down and build the Seahawks as they transitioned from one group of playoff-caliber personnel to another. He had plenty of say in roster construction, as he oversaw player contract negotiations, salary cap compliance, player personnel transactions, among many other duties, according to his profile on the Seahawks’ official site.

Regardless of who the Jets choose, head coach Rex Ryan is not involved in the interview process.

According to Jay Glazer of FOX Sports, the Jets’ atmosphere is holding them back. Glazer continues to say that he expects New York to make the move rather quickly, but it certainly hasn’t been an easy process.

All of it speaks to the epic dysfunction within the organization, whether real or perceived. The Jets are also held back by owner Woody Johnson’s proclamation that no potential GM can come in and replace head coach Rex Ryan.

New York is conducting an exhaustive search with multiple interviews already conducted, and more on the way on top of Angelo’s, by all accounts.

There are still plenty of decisions to be made regarding the rest of the coaching staff, but not being able to bring in a new head coach is something that hasn’t made the Jets without suitors, regardless.

Gamble has spent the past seven years with his current team and has helped build the 49ers into a power in the NFC. He has 24 years of NFL experience including two with the Jets, where he served as a quality-control defensive assistant in 1995 and 1996. He also has a variety of experience in the professional and college scouting departments and in contract negotiations.

Heckert, who along with Browns head coach Pat Shurmur was fired by the Browns at the end of the 2012 season after a 5-11 campaign, is also attracting strong interest from an unnamed team, according to The Plain Dealer’s Mary Kay Cabot, who also reported the scheduled meeting between Heckert and the Jets.
