The Jets fired GM Mike Tannenbaum following the season after the team failed to reach the playoffs for the second straight year and appeared to be on a downward arc. On the other hand, the Seahawks have built a young corps of players that won 11 games and reached the Divisional round.

Gamble has spent the past seven years with his current team and has helped build the 49ers into a power in the NFC. He has 24 years of NFL experience including two with the Jets, where he served as a quality-control defensive assistant in 1995 and 1996. He also has a variety of experience in the professional and college scouting departments and in contract negotiations.
