Jets GM rumors: Dolphins’ Brian Gaine earns interview

Miami Dolphins assistant general manager Brian Gaine will interview for the vacant general manager position with the New York Jets, according to Albert Breer.

Miami Dolphins assistant general manager Brian Gaine is expected to interview with the New York Jets for New York's vacant general manager position, according to the NFL Network's Albert Breer.

The Jets fired general manager Mike Tannenbaum nine days ago, after the Jets finished the regular season with a 6-10 record.

Gaine was promoted by Miami in June 2012 to the position of assistant general manager. Prior to the promotion, Gaine served as director of player personnel. Gaine interviewed last offseason for the St. Louis Rams' general manager job, but did not receive an offer from the Rams.

Gaine spent six years (1999-2004) in the Jets' scouting department, and served as New York's assistant director or pro scouting in 2004. In 1996, Gaine spent time with the Jets as a tight end on New York's practice squad.

Before arriving in Miami, Gaine worked for the Dallas Cowboys in 2005-07, working with current Dolphins general manager, Jeff Ireland.
