Jets GM rumors: David Caldwell earns 2nd interview

David Caldwell has earned a second interview with the New York Jets for their vacant general manager position.

The New York Jets have granted David Caldwell a second interview for their vacant general manager position, according to Marc Sessler of NFL.com. According to the report, Caldwell is "believed to be" the first candidate to earn a second interview with the Jets.

Caldwell is the current director of player personnel with the Atlanta Falcons and is on the radar of a few teams. He's had three interviews with the Jacksonville Jaguars and is considered one of two finalists for that job.

Until this point, San Francisco 49ers director of player personnel Tom Gamble was considered the front runner for the Jets job. It's unclear if this move makes Caldwell the front runner or not, but it goes to show that Gamble doesn't have the job "locked down."

To complete the loop, Gamble recently declined another interview with the Jaguars to concentrate his efforts on landing the gig with the Jets.

Whoever comes in will replace Mike Tannenbaum and will have to work with current head coach Rex Ryan. There are still plenty of decisions to be made regarding the rest of the coaching staff, but not being able to bring in a new head coach is something that hasn’t made the Jets without suitors, regardless.
