Zach Miller injury: Seahawks tight end hurts foot but returns in 1st quarter

Seattle tight end Zach Miller injured his foot early but did return after missing just one Seahawks possession.

Seahawks tight end Zach Miller injured his foot in first quarter of Seattle's divisional round game against the Falcons. It happened on Seattle's first possession of the game, and Miller was having his lower left leg examined on the sideline before jogging back to the locker room for the trainers to take a closer look. The team announced shortly thereafter that Miller had sustained a foot injury and his return was questionable.

After missing a possession, Miller did return to the field for Seattle’s final drive of the quarter, making an immediate impact with back-to-back catches for 31 yards. Miller went across the field and caught perfect pass dropped over the top by Russell Wilson for a big 23-yard gain. He appeared slightly hobbled getting across the field, but still had plenty to separate from coverage.

A reduced Miller would be a significant blow to Seattle's offense, as the veteran tight end has been a reliable pass-catching option for Wilson. Miller worked the middle of the field last week to lead the Seahawks with four catches and 48 receiving yards. He finished the season third on the team in receptions, with 38 catches and three touchdowns. Anthony McCoy is the other top option lining up at tight end.
