2013 NFL free agents: Greg Jennings knows Packers will put team first

Greg Jennings will be an unrestricted free agent for 2013. Find out what he has to say about his situation in Green Bay.

Jonathan Daniel

It’s common to see players really elevate their game when they’re in the last year of their contract. That’s just the way the NFL works. Unfortunately for Greg Jennings, he was unable to show off what he has to offer in 2012.

Marred by injuries, Jennings played in just eight games during the regular season. He finished his seventh year in the league with just 36 receptions for 366 yards and four touchdowns. Meanwhile Randall Cobb emerged as a star for the Packers, and Jordy Nelson also put in several huge games when he was healthy enough to play.

With their playoff dreams ruined by the 49ers, the Packers now head into the offseason, leaving Jennings to contemplate his future. The 29-year-old wide receiver is set to become an unrestricted free agent. He doesn’t know what Green Bay will decide to do with him, but he does understand the Packers will put the team first. Here’s what he had to say on the topic at hand:

“At the end of the day, you know the Packers are going to do what’s best for the Packers...And that’s not going to change whether you’re No. 4, No. 80, No. 85, No. 77. That’s going to be the case. They’re going to do what’s best for the Packers and the organization.”

The Packers will certainly continue to feature Cobb and Nelson in their offense, so Jennings may be expendable at this point. Jennings will draw attention from several other teams if he parts ways with Green Bay. The main concern, though, is how big of a contract he can seek out after missing a significant amount of 2012.
