Brian Daboll rejoins Patriots coaching staff, according to report

Brian Daboll is reportedly returning to Foxboro, years after the former Patriots wide receivers coach followed Eric Mangini to New York.

Brian Daboll is reportedly returning to Foxboro.

According to Judy Battista, Daboll is returning to the New England Patriots coaching staff, where he served as a coach under Bill Belichick between 2000-2006.

Daboll left New England following the 2006 season, becoming the quarterbacks coach for the New York Jets -- under former Patriots assistant Eric Mangini. Mangini famously complained to league about Belichick and his staff, claiming that the New England coaches were videotaping opponent coaches illegally.

Mangini was fired after the 2008 season, and became the Cleveland Browns' head coach prior to the 2009 season. Daboll followed Mangini to Cleveland and served as Mangini's offensive coordinator in 2009-10.

Daboll served as Miami's offensive coordinator in 2011, before being reunited with Scott Pioli in Kansas City in 2012, serving as the Chiefs' offensive coordinator.

While in New England, Daboll served as Belichick’s defensive coaching assistant between 2000-2001, before being named wide receivers coach between 2002-2006.

Last year, Belichick added Josh McDaniels to New England’s staff during the Patriots’ playoff run. McDaniels served as an offensive assistant coach, and replaced Bill O’Brien as New England’s offensive coordinator in 2012.

It’s currently unknown what position Daboll will hold on New England’s staff.
