The West team did not suit up in pads on the first day of practices at the 2013 East-West Shrine Game. While the team’s first session was a light one, a few prospects were able to flash some ability for those in attendance.
East-West Shrine Game 2013 practice report: Jasper Collins shines for West
Even without pads during Monday’s practice, a handful of prospects made a positive impressive for the West team.

CBS Sports’ Dane Brugler was covering the practices live and tweeting out his thoughts throughout the day.
One of the most impressive prospects of the day hails from Division III Mount Union. Wide receiver Jasper Collins could be the next Raider pass catcher to make an impact in the NFL after Pierre Garcon and Cecil Shorts III have had success coming out of Mount Union. Brugler, who also attended Mount Union, insists there is not bias when he says Collins had a solid practice on Monday.
Brugler also tweeted that he was impressed with Illinois defensive back Terry Hawthorne, who was inconsistent at times this season but is showing his athleticism on the practice field.
Texas A&M running back Christine Michael had a few nice runs and received plenty of carries, according to Josh Norris of Rotoworld. Norris also noted that UCLA tight end Joseph Fauria left practice early with an apparent hip injury after making a diving catch.
The action on the West side should continue to heat up once the team holds some full padded practices.
