2013 AFC South schedule: Andrew Luck and Peyton Manning meet in Indy

The AFC South will play the AFC West and NFC West next year, meaning many intriguing matchups.

USA TODAY Sports

In 2013, the AFC South will have a schedule filled with interesting games, both within and outside the division.

Of course, the main inter-division games to circle on the calendar will be when the Indianapolis Colts and Houston Texans square off twice. None of the games have been nailed down to a date so it’s unclear if those matchups will take place early in the season or later on, but it would be far from shocking if these two meet in Week 17.

The best game of the year involving this division looks like the Colts hosting the Denver Broncos. The storylines are obvious but worth saying. Peyton Manning will be back in Lucas Oil Stadium for the first time since joining forces with John Elway and Denver. It will also be his first game against Andrew Luck, the man who took his spot and stole the heart of his adoring fans.

Houston has a few intriguing games on the docket, perhaps none more so than when it travels to the Bay Area to play the San Francisco 49ers.

It could be a Super Bowl preview between two teams that are just maybe the most talented in football top to bottom. Watching J.J. Watt try to chase down Colin Kaepernick is worth the price of admission alone.

Barring any major changes in the offseason, the AFC South is a study in contrast. The top two teams, Indy and Houston, are both considered on the rise and certainly playoff contenders.

In the bottom half of the division, the Tennessee Titans are waiting on Jake Locker to make strides before they can get anywhere, while the Jacksonville Jaguars have a very long road ahead.

Because the Texans and Colts finished 1-2 this year, they play the same home and away schedule, while the Titans and Jaguars do the same.
