RGIII injury update: Redskins QB ‘will likely start the 2013 season’

Dr. James Andrews says RG3 is “well on his way to recovery” less than a week after undergoing surgery to repair the ACL and LCL in his right knee.

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Less than a week after surgery, Dr. James Andrews believes Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III is "well on his way to recovery." Andrews performed knee surgery on RG3 on Wednesday, Jan. 9 and although he would not go into details he said RG3 will likely be ready to start the 2013 season.

Andrews is on a media tour to promote his book, “Any Given Monday,” but Griffin has been a hot topic during Andrews’ interviews. Andrews is known as the top orthopedic surgeon in the nation for knee, elbow and shoulder surgeries and also serves as the Redskins team doctor.

RG3 tore the ACL and LCL and meniscus in his right knee during the Redskins playoff loss to the Seattle Seahawks, all three of which were repaired in surgery. Andrews said after the surgery that he expects a full recovery from Griffin and for him to be ready for the 2013 season. Given that he made those comments were on the day of surgery, it is not a surprise that Andrews still believes Griffin will be ready for the start of the season.
