Brandon Marshall injury: Bears WR having hip scoped

Chicago Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall will undergo an arthroscopic hip procedure.

USA TODAY Sports

For the third time in his career, Chicago Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall will undergo a hip procedure. Michael C. Wright confirmed Vik Chokshi's report that the Bears' talented wide receiver will undergo arthroscopic hip surgery early this offseason.

In his first year with the Bears, Marshall had a career year. Marshall set career-highs in receptions (118), receiving yards (1,508) and touchdowns (11) in 2012. Marshall received a staggering 194 targets from Chicago quarterbacks -- primarily Jay Cutler.

The procedure will be Marshall’s third hip operation in the last five seasons. Marshall underwent procedures during the 2009 and 2010 offseasons. Still, Marshall has never missed more than two regular season games in a season so far in his career.

Unless the procedure is more serious than what is being reported, Marshall should be ready to participate in OTAs and in training camp.

The 6’4 receiver turns 29 in March, and will attempt to help Cutler and the Bears return to the playoffs in 2013.
