Former Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith has been rumored to be a candidate for several head coach and defensive coordinator positions, but he may not coach at all in 2013, according to a report from Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.
Lovie Smith rumors: Former Bears head coach could wait until 2014 to return
After being fired by the Bears, Lovie Smith may not coach in 2013 if he doesn’t land another head coaching job.

When he was fired by the Bears, Smith had one year remaining on his contract worth $5 million. Any salary Smith earned in 2013 would deduct from what the Bears owed him, making it nearly impossible for Smith to earn more by working as a coordinator than he would by taking a year off.
The Jacksonville Jaguars and Arizona Cardinals are both still searching for a new head coaches, but Smith isn't believed to be in the running for either making it even more likely he will not coach in 2013. If Smith does indeed take a year off from coaching, it will be the first break since he started as a high school coach in 1980.
Smith interviewed with the Buffalo Bills, San Diego Chargers and Philadelphia Eagles, but all three teams hired different candidates.
