Pep Hamilton hired as Colts offensive coordinator, according to report

According to a report, Pep Hamilton has been hired by the Indianapolis Colts as their new offensive coordinator.

According to Sports Illustrated's Jim Trotter, Pep Hamilton, the former offensive coordinator at Stanford University, has been hired by the Indianapolis Colts to replace Bruce Arians, who was hired by the Arizona Cardinals as their new head coach, as the team's new offensive coordinator according to Jim Trotter of Sports Illustrated.

Hamilton was hired by Stanford prior to the 2010 season as the team's wide receivers coach. He was promoted to the team's offensive coordinator before the 2011 season and held that title through the 2012 season, as well as the quarterbacks coach. He does have NFL experience, though, as he has coached in some sort of capacity for the Jets, the 49ers and the Bears.

One of the reasons that the Colts went after Hamilton was likely the fact that Hamilton coached Andrew Luck, the Colts' new quarterback, when he was at Stanford. Luck finished the 2012 season with 4,374 passing yards and 23 touchdowns, as well as five rushing touchdowns, and led the Colts to the playoffs as the No. 5 seed. Reuniting Luck with his college coach could help his transition from college football to pro football even more smooth than it already is.
