Marty Mornhinweg expected to be Jets offensive coordinator, according to report

After a disappointing year on offense, the Jets will try to get the ball moving in a positive direction in 2013. Former Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg, who had several strong years as Philly’s OC before 2012’s disappointment, is favored to get the job.

Shortly after reports that the New York Jets will hire John Idzik as the team's new general manager, Adam Caplan of Sirius-XM Radio and PhiladelphiaEagles.com reports that Marty Mornhinweg is the favorite to be the new offensive coordinator of the Jets.

Mornhinweg, 50, spent the last 10 seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles after he was hired in 2003 as a senior assistant. He was an assistant coach for the team before becoming the offensive coordinator for the Eagles in 2006.

Prior to joining the Eagles, Mornhinweg had two unsuccessful seasons as the head coach of the Detroit Lions, posting a combined 5-27 record. He had four seasons of offensive coordinator experience with the San Francisco 49ers, as well, before joining the Lions.

The Jets finished the 2012 season with a 6-10 record and ranked No. 30 in the NFL in total yardage. The Eagles had four consecutive seasons in the top 10 of the NFL offensively before finishing No. 29 in 2012.
