Super Bowl Odds: San Francisco 49ers betting favorites vs Baltimore Ravens, opening line

The Baltimore Ravens have San Francisco right where they want them - sitting as an underdog. The Ravens are +3.5 on the opening Super Bowl odds menu, while the 49ers have been hot as a favorite.

After winning as 9-point underdogs and 8-point underdogs, the Super Bowl XLVII point spread facing the Baltimore Ravens looks like no trouble at all.

San Francisco opened as 4.5-point favorites on the Super Bowl odds menu late Sunday, but it was quickly bet down to -3.5 at several sportsbooks tracked by OddsShark.com, the lines partner to SBNation.

Whatever the number, the Ravens are embracing the underdog role, having upset both the Denver Broncos (+9) and New England Patriots (+8) on the road the past few weeks. [ Watch line moves here at SBNation ]

And given that the underdog is 8-3 ATS in the past 11 Super Bowls, expect bettors in Vegas and around the online world to give the Ravens more than a passing thought.

The trend favoring the NFC representative is pretty obvious, but far from a guarantee. The NFC has covered the spread in five straight Super Bowls.

The game gives Ray Lewis the opportunity to retire as a champion and gives the Harbaugh household a guaranteed happy ending to Super Bowl XLVII.

The Harbaugh brothers - Jim in San Fran and John in Baltimore - will be the first siblings to coach against each other for the Lombardi Trophy.
