Anna Burns Welker apologized for comments she made on Facebook regarding Ray Lewis, following New England’s loss to Baltimore in the AFC Championship game.

Mrs. Welker took to Facebook to air some of her frustration after the loss, first stating that she's proud of her husband and the Patriots -- and why not? Welker, despite a crucial drop, hauled in over 100 receiving yards in the loss, and the Patriots advanced to their seventh AFC title game under the Tom Brady, Bill Belichick regime.
Mrs. Welker then encouraged her Facebook friends to check out Ray Lewis’ Wikipedia page, which highlights some of Lewis’ off the field troubles of the past, and sarcastically said, “What a role model!”
Needless to say, Mrs. Welker’s comments weren’t well-received, and she issued a statement to Larry Brown Sports, in which she apologized for her comments.
“I’m deeply sorry for my recent post on Facebook,” Burns told Larry Brown Sports in a statement. “I let the competitiveness of the game and the comments people were making about a team I dearly love get the best of me. My actions were emotional and irrational and I sincerely apologize to Ray Lewis and anyone affected by my comment after yesterday’s game.
“It is such an accomplishment for any team to make it to the NFL playoffs, and the momentary frustration I felt should not overshadow the accomplishments of both of these amazing teams.”
Whether or not Ray Lewis is the forgiving type for matters like this is unknown, but the apology is a nice gesture from Mrs. Welker. She’s not the first or the last to say something controversial in the heat of the moment.
