Tom Brady fined $10,000 for unneccessary roughness in AFC Championship Game

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was fined for unnecessary roughness after a rather physical slide on Sunday.

The NFL has fined New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady $10,000 for unnecessary roughness in the AFC Championship game against the Baltimore Ravens, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, via Twitter.

According to Rapoport, the fine is due to a slide Brady took to avoid a tackle from Ravens safety Ed Reed. Brady slid with one leg pointed upward at Reed, who caught on it and stumbled. Reed looked like he had jumped to avoid the spikes on the bottom of Brady's cleats.

A quarterback going down for the slide is likely thinking about few things other than his own safety, but it did certainly look as though he were attempting to kick or trip Reed.

There’s been a lot of outrage over the lack of fines for Brady to this point, with the Internet in general seeming to disregard the fact that all fines come out on the same day, for the most part.

Ravens safety Bernard Pollard, long known for his propensity to hurt Patriots players, stated prior to the announcement that he wanted the NFL to investigate the slide/kick. Given that this is the Patriots and more specifically Brady, it's likely people will complain that the fine wasn't enough, but it's not as though Brady has a history of this kind of thing.
