Michael Phelps credits Ray Lewis for 2012 Olympic success

The Olympic swimmer says Ray Lewis has been there for him through the tough times.

Michael Phelps, the man who has won more Olympic gold medals (18) than anyone in history, says it couldn't have been possible without Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis.

According to the Washington Post, Lewis has been an inspiration for Phelps, especially once he was dealing with the fallout of that famous photo in 2009 showing him smoking out of a water pipe, which is often used for marijuana. Per the article:

“We’ve talked about so much the last couple years of my career,” Phelps said. “He just helped me get through a lot of hard times, and I wouldn’t have been able to do it without him. He’s been telling me, ‘One more shot. We’re gonna have one more shot.’ And he did it.”

Phelps says Lewis has helped him through the tough times, which Lewis can certainly understand. Of course, Lewis was famously involved in a double-homicide case.

Now, Lewis is going to his second Super Bowl in what will be his last game.

Meanwhile, Phelps’ career as an Olympian has already come to an end, with the 2012 Games in London being his last. He leaves with 22 medals to his credit, far and away the most in history.
