Jeff Saturday remains undecided on NFL future

Jeff Saturday isn’t making any decisions on his retirement until after the Pro Bowl. Here’s what the veteran center had to say on his plans.

Jeff Hanisch-US PRESSWIRE

After 14 years in the NFL, Jeff Saturday may be down to his last hurrah out in Hawaii. The veteran center is still contemplating retirement, and will wait until after the 2013 Pro Bowl to make his final decision.

Saturday told the media on Thursday he had not made up his mind yet about his future plans. “As soon as this game is over, we’ll make that final call,” said Saturday. He will reportedly make that final determination with his wife and family after Sunday.

The 2012 season didn't go exactly the way Saturday likely envisioned prior to joining the Packers. After spending 13 years with the Colts, Saturday made the move to Green Bay only to be replaced by Evan Dietrich-Smith back in the middle of December. Despite taking a backseat to the third-year player from Idaho State, Saturday still found a spot on the NFC Pro Bowl roster, marking the sixth trip of his career to Honolulu.

As Andy Fenelon notes, the Packers are expected to release Saturday, so if he does want to stick around in the league, it’ll be with another team. A well-respected name in the NFL today, his presence will be missed if he decides to call it quits.
