2013 Super Bowl: Terrell Suggs saving talk for Feb. 4

Terrell Suggs is known to give a lively soundbite or two when pressed by the media. But he is remaining quiet in the build-up to Super Bowl XLVII.

US PRESSWIRE

Terrell Suggs is rarely one to pull his punches when talking to media. But the Baltimore Ravens linebacker said little to reporters when pressed at his locker Friday, according to the Baltimore Sun. When asked whether he takes any satisfaction coming back from multiple injuries this season to help lead the Ravens to the Super Bowl, Suggs was curt.

“None, not yet,” he said. “Ask me that question on February 4.”

Suggs was less reserved following the Ravens' win over the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship game last Sunday. He had no problem speaking his mind in the moments after the game. Here's a taste:

Suggs is used to the spotlight he puts on himself. Last year, he told Skip Bayless exactly what we have always been thinking, and the sports world largely thanked him for it. This year, whether by his own choice or the urging of the organization, he has stuck to platitudes when talking about the San Francisco 49ers.

“I don’t really have to say anything to them,” Suggs said. “The fact that we’re the last two teams playing says it all. We’re just going to keep chucking and keep our eyes on the prize. One more to go.”

Suggs is playing his best football of the season at the moment, after a season marred by injuries. He was held out until Week 7 with a partially torn Achilles' tendon, and played just six games before tearing his biceps. Either injury could have ended his season, but he has somehow managed to return and thrive. He had two sacks to go with 10 tackles against the Denver Broncos two weeks ago. Last week, he racked up seven tackles and a hit on quarterback Tom Brady.

Suggs has acknowledged that the window is closing on the Ravens to win a championship. With Ray Lewis retiring and Ed Reed a free agent after the season, Baltimore will soon have to deal with a significant defensive rebuild. Suggs himself will be 31 years old next season. It appears he is doing everything he can to make sure he doesn't jeopardize what may be his last shot at the Super Bowl.
