The New England Patriots have added yet another player from the CFL to their offseason roster, according to the Boston Globe. Defensive end/rush linebacker Jason Vega will join the Pats once he is let out of his contract with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, as expected. Defensive lineman Armond Armstead was the Pats' first CFL signing this offseason.

The Patriots have dipped back into the CFL ranks for help along the defensive line, signing DE/OLB Jason Vega from the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Vega was productive with the Blue Bombers, racking up 12 sacks over his last two seasons. At 6’4, 255 pounds, he can reportedly run a solid 4.6 40-yard dash. Vega also has Boston ties, having graduated from Northeastern. He was never named to a CAA All-Conference team in his college career — first, second or third team — but he has apparently bloomed since going undrafted in 2011.
The SB Nation blog Pats Pulpit called the move “low risk”, and certainly lower-profile than the Armstead signing. Vega’s versatility gives him a chance to make the final roster, however. He also played some tight end with the Blue Bombers, which comes in handy on a Pats squad that tends to wear through bodies at the position.
