Super Bowl 2013: Harbaugh parents will get plenty of face time

Jack and Jackie Harbaugh are mostly anonymous right now, but that will change come Sunday.

Jim and John Harbaugh are not surprisingly the first brothers ever to coach against each other in the Super Bowl. That also makes their parents, Jack and Jackie, the first parents to ever be in such a tough position.

The Harbaugh parents will undoubtedly be watched closely by CBS’ television cameras, something that will be quite the storyline throughout the game.

According to an article on Yahoo.com, the idea of watching the parents really took off during NBC’s coverage of the 2012 London Games, when Aly Raisman was performing on the uneven bars. Her mom and dad were captivating to watch, giving the company an idea. Per Yahoo:

"I had no idea it was going to be so great," said David Michaels, senior producer at NBC Sports, who often produces and directs coverage of gymnastics and figure skating, events where parental involvement can be particularly intense.

Meanwhile, the Harbaughs have been through a dress rehearsal of this before, during the Thanksgiving game between the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers last year. The Ravens won that matchup, 16-6. Per Yahoo:

“She just stared at the screen,” Jack said. “Not a word was spoken. And at the end of the game, it was just over.”

Now the stakes are through the roof, but don’t expect that to make much of a difference in the way Jack and Jackie handle things.

“I am going to be neutral in the game,” Jackie Harbaugh said. “I know one is going to win and one is going to lose, but I would really like to end in a tie. Can the NFL do that?”

No, no it can’t.
