Scott Pioli was fired as the Kansas City Chiefs general manager earlier in January, shortly after Andy Reid was brought in as the new head coach, replacing Romeo Crennel.
NFL Draft 2013: Scott Pioli names Luke Joeckel as top underclassman
Scott Pioli may have been fired, but he’s not out of the news when it comes to the NFL Draft.

Pioli was in the process of going through the draft board before he got the boot, and he had his eye on Texas A&M left tackle Luke Joeckel as the top underclassman available, according to Peter King.
Joeckel has been mocked to the Chiefs in quite a few drafts recently, giving credence to the idea Kansas City could pick up the hulking youngster if Branden Albert doesn't sign a new deal. Without question, Joeckel has tremendous upside and will be going off the board very quickly come April 25.
Of course, the Chiefs don't have anybody on the roster for Joeckel to protect. Matt Cassel has been a nightmare for Kansas City since 2010, and Brady Quinn, well, he's been a nightmare everywhere, every year.
Pioli also really likes Alabama corner Dee Milliner. With the loss last year of Brandon Carr to the Dallas Cowboys, the Chiefs are in the market for a cornerback. Is it possible that Kansas City makes a corner its No. 1 pick?
