Wes Hanson wrote about Jed York, and his role in rebuilding the San Francisco franchise. Hanson contends that York’s work with the 49ers is similar to the role he played in getting the 49ers a new stadium.
Similarly, York has rebuilt the 49ers as a franchise. It’s an apt metaphor, York as construction manager of the team. His work with the stadium is somewhat parallel to his work on the team. He has had to fight tooth and nail to reshape the team in his image - and image that looks back heavily to the glory days of old.
Hanson’s piece on York is well worth the read for any 49ers fan -- or any football fan interested in knowing more about San Francisco’s ownership.
Dylan DeSimone has an excellent piece up at Niners Nation as well, breaking down Colin Kaepernick and his speed against the Baltimore Ravens’ defense. DeSimone not only breaks down Baltimore’s defense by age, but also by speed -- and wonders who will be able to contain San Francisco’s dynamic quarterback.
The second-year quarterback may have a tremendous advantage this Sunday with his running ability. It’s a certainty that the Ravens will be well prepared, but when it comes down to physical ability versus physical ability, are they going to be able to contain No. 7?
Their four best players at each level of the defensive infrastructure - Haloti Ngata (29),Ray Lewis (37), Terrell Suggs (30) and Ed Reed (34) - are an average age of 32.5. Only Ngata is under thirty years of age. There is a lot of wear and tear within this group, and it may be difficult for them to run down the 6’5”, 230-pound sprinter in Kaepernick.
Fans interested in the strategic aspect of the game should definitely head over to Niners Nation and read DeSimone’s piece. Also, 49ers fans should check out Niners Nation all week long -- and join the community.
