Super Bowl 2013: Commemorative footballs you’ll never see

Wilson prepared Super Bowl footballs for four possible timelines. Only one was necessary for ours.

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

On the morning of Jan. 20, four NFL timelines were put into motion.

In one of them, the Patriots beat the Ravens, advancing to meet the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl XLVII.

In another, the Patriots are preparing to meet 49ers. In yet another, the Falcons advanced to their first Super Bowl since 1998 and now get ready to play the Ravens.

Then there is the timeline we know: San Francisco and Baltimore advanced to the Super Bowl, and will square off for the NFL championship Sunday.

Wilson Sporting Goods designed footballs for each of these possibilities. Thanks to Eric Malinowski of Buzzfeed, we can now see how things may have looked in the other timelines.
