Ron Rivera, Jerry Richardson meeting over the weekend to determine future

The Carolina Panthers head coach could be fired this weekend after another disappointing season.

Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson will meet with coach Ron Rivera this weekend to discuss his future with the organization, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.

The Panthers have informed the assistant coaches that their status for next season should be known by Monday, as the Carolina coaching staff has been kept in the dark about their future since the conclusion of the season. Rivera is in his second season as the Panthers head coach after two seasons as the defensive coordinator with the San Diego Chargers.

The Panthers finished 6-10 in 2011 with rookie quarterback sensation Cam Newton leading the offense, with Carolina appearing to be an improving organization with a big future. Carolina lost six of the first seven games of the season in 2012, however, and despite winning five of the last six the season as a whole was more than disappointing with just a 7-9 record.

If Rivera is not retained as head coach, it is thought that Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy would be the favorite for the vacant position.
