Joe Webb to start at quarterback for Vikings against Packers

A sore elbow will sideline Christian Ponder for what would have been his first playoff game as the Vikings turn to Webb.

Nick Laham

The number for Joe Webb this season is one. He has played in one game and has one run for negative one yard. He will now start at least one playoff game for the Vikings, as it has been announced that Webb will replace an injured Christian Ponder.

The Vikings were cautious with Ponder (elbow) in practice this week but signs were still pointing toward him starting against the Packers in Saturday's Wild Card matchup. Those signs were wrong.

Webb has two career starts at quarterback, both coming for Minnesota back in 2010. He led the Vikings to a 24-14 win over the Eagles in his first career start, but then lost his next game in Detroit as the Lions won 20-13. Last December Webb replaced Ponder in a game against the Redskins and went 4-for-5 for 84 yards and two touchdowns in a 33-26 comeback win. He also ran for a score in this game.

Now the Vikings will be counting on Webb to lead them to a playoff win over their NFC North division rival. Can he get one more win?
