Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times is reporting big news, saying the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will not discuss an extension of Josh Freeman's contract in the 2013 offseason.

The Buccaneers like Josh Freeman, just not enough to give him a contract extension until he proves himself worthy.

Should Freeman go out and begin to play as the organization hopes, Tampa Bay always has the option of slapping him with the franchise tag while it tries to work out a multi-year deal. The tag would keep him off the free agent market and give Freeman plenty of incentive to sign, considering the injury risk of the sport.
This news all coming on the heels of a 7-9 season for the Buccaneers in which Freeman looked incredible at times and lost at others.
The physical tools are obviously there for the Kansas State product, but the results have been inconsistent. Freeman was prolific, throwing for 4,085 yards and 27 touchdowns, but also tossing 17 interceptions. The last number ranks him third worst in the NFL, tied with the likes of Brandon Weeden.
