After missing out on Chip Kelly, Bill O'Brien and Doug Marrone, the Browns are moving on in their coaching search and will interview Indianapolis offensive coordinator Bruce Arians and Montreal Allouettes head coach Marc Trestman, according to a report from Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
Browns coaching search: Bruce Arians set to interview
The Browns will interview Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians and Montreal Alouettes coach Marc Trestman.
Both Arians and Trestman have a history with Cleveland, each having served as the Browns' offensive coordinator. Arians was Cleveland's offensive coordinator from 2001 to 2003. He spent last season as the offensive coordinator in Indianapolis and also served as the interim head coach for 12 games. Arians led the Colts to a 9-3 record as interim coach and has also been linked to the Chicago Bears and Philadelphia Eagles.
Trestman spent 1989 as the Browns offensive coordinator. He was an assistant coach in the NFL from 1985 to 2004 but has been head coach of the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League since 2008. Trestman has also been rumored to be a candidate for the Chicago Bears’ opening.
While Arians and Trestman will interview, there is also speculation that Alabama coach Nick Saban or former NFL coach Jon Gruden could also be candidates. After pursuing other college coaches, some are speculating the Browns could make a run at Saban, with one source even citing Browns owner Jimmy Haslam’s ability to recruit.
