Bill Cowher has turned down coaching interviews, according to report

Bill Cowher isn’t ruling out a return to coaching, but it won’t be next year.

Matthew Emmons-US PRESSWIRE

Former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Bill Cowher has been contacted by several NFL teams looking for a head coach, but Cowher has turned down interviews and will not return to the NFL next season, according to a report from Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Cowher, who is currently an NFL studio analyst for CBS, said he thinks he will coach again but not next season. According to the report from Dulac, a source close to Cowher said it may be four or five more years before the 55-year-old Cowher decides to return to the sidelines.

With eight NFL teams looking for head coaches, any number of them could have contacted Cowher, but Dulac said it was likely the Cleveland Browns were one of the teams. Browns owner Jimmy Haslam was an investor in the Steelers while Cowher coached in Pittsburgh.

After spending 15 seasons as the head coach in Pittsburgh, Cowher has not coached since he retired following the 2006 season.
