Jets sign WR David Nelson given Santonio Holmes injury

The Jets have added another receiver with Holmes being sidelined because of a barking hamstring.

New York Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes is likely going to be out for Monday night's contest against the Atlanta Falcons with a hamstring injury, according to Manish Mehta.

Even worse news comes from Brian Costello, who reports that Holmes will not miss only one week, but a couple. Because of that, the Jets reportedly will sign wide receiver David Nelson to step in for Holmes.

Nelson is in his fourth season out of the University of Florida. The former Gator played with the Buffalo Bills for the first three years of his career, with his best season coming in 2011. That campaign, Nelson caught 61 passes for 658 yards and five touchdowns. He only played in one game last year after tearing his ACL.

Holmes missed 12 games last season with a Lisfranc injury and was held out the entire preseason as he recovered. This year, Holmes has played in all four games and made an impact, catching 10 passes for 243 yards and a touchdown.
