Giants waive 2nd leading rusher Da’Rel Scott

The Giants dropped a member of their already-weak running back group on Tuesday.

The Giants have had issues at running back so far this season and now they are a bit lighter in their backfield. The Giants released Week 4 starter Da'Rel Scott on Tuesday, just days after the first start of his career.

Scott is the Giants' second-leading rusher on the season with 56 yards on 16 carries, and had played more snaps than any running back on the team. He also had 10 catches for 98 yards in the passing game. That might make the move come off as a bit of a surprise, but the former seventh-round pick dropped a pass and missed a block during the Giants' loss to the Chiefs in Week 4, according to NFL.com's Chris Wesseling.

Scott averaged 3.5 yards per carry this season and scored a receiving touchdown in Week 2 against the Broncos. He has spent his entire three-year career with the Giants.

The waiving of Scott makes room for center Dallas Reynolds, who was signed to add depth to a battered and bruised offensive line. Reynolds, a second-year player, started 14 games for the Eagles last season.
