Malcom Floyd injury: Chargers WR out for season

The Chargers will be without Malcom Floyd for the rest of the season.

Brace Hemmelgarn-US PRESSWIRE

Chargers' wide receiver Malcom Floyd will be out longer than originally thought following the neck injury he suffered in Week 2 against the Eagles. Floyd's agent Buddy Baker says the veteran will miss the rest of the season, according to Michael Gehlken of the Union-Tribune San Diego.

Update: It’s official:

Floyd has missed the last two games since receiving a vicious hit to the head and neck by Eagles’ linebacker DeMeco Ryans. The wide receiver laid on the grass of Lincoln Financial Field for several minutes before being taken off the field on a stretcher. He was taken to a Philadelphia hospital but was cleared to return to San Diego with his teammates hours later.

With the absence of Floyd, the Chargers had added another wide receiver to their offense. Per Gehlken, San Diego has signed veteran receiver Lavelle Hawkins to a contract. Hawkins is in his sixth season and played with the Titans from 2008-2012. He spent the offseason with the Patriots and 49ers but was cut by both before the season.

The Chargers will host the Raiders at 11:35 p.m. Sunday. The game will be televised on NFL Network.
