Eagles’ Chip Kelly in no hurry to name starting QB vs. Buccaneers

While Nick Foles is expected to start, Michael Vick could get the nod just before game time if he’s determined to be healthy enough.

Phil Sears-USA TODAY Sports

Nick Foles is expected to start for the Eagles this week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but Philadelphia head coach Chip Kelly did not rule out the possibility that Michael Vick will be healthy enough to be named the starter just before game time. Kelly went as far as to say that the decision could be made at "12:59," which would be 1 minute before the game starts, according to CSN Philly's Reuben Frank.

Vick is currently listed as "doubtful" with a hamstring injury that knocked him out of the Eagles' Week 5 win over the New York Giants. Foles came into the game and was 16-of-25 for 197 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions, but the Giants currently sport one of the worst defenses in the NFL.

Vick has not been accurate this season, completing just 53.8 percent of his attempts, but he’s averaging 9.3 yards per carry and has limited turnovers better than he has in recent seasons. If healthy enough to play, it appears as though Kelly has no qualms in starting Vick, but we may not know the answer to that until kickoff on Sunday.
