Carl Nicks has reoccurrence of staph infection, according to report

Buccaneers starting guard Carl Nicks is once again suffering from a staph infection.

Kim Klement-US PRESSWIRE

The staph infection that caused Buccaneers guard Carl Nicks to miss the first two games of the season has returned. Tests have revealed that Nicks' toe has traces of MRSA again and he is believed to be suffering from a reoccurrence of the infection, according to FOX Sports 1's Mike Garafolo.

Nicks first started showing signs of MRSA in his toe during training camp and was forced out of action with the infection. Kicker Lawrence Tynes was also diagnosed with a staph infection during training camp and was placed on the NFI list. Staph infections can be deadly, as former Browns center LeCharles Bentley nearly was killed by one in 2006 after he suffered a patellar tendon tear.

Nicks, a two-time Pro Bowler, has started the Buccaneers’ last two games. There is no word on if Nicks will miss any games with the infection or how long he would miss if he had to take time to recover.

The Buccaneers will host the Eagles on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET on FOX.
