Willie Colon believes Jets are better without Tim Tebow circus

Willie Colon wasn't with the New York Jets in 2012, but he has strong opinions on the team's progression since cutting Tim Tebow. The offensive lineman called Tebow's tenure with the Jets a "circus group," telling the media Thursday about the change in the team's attitude.

Colon signed a one-year deal in New York this offseason after beginning his career in Pittsburgh. The veteran guard believes a large part of the Jets’ success in 2013 is due to jettisoning Tebow.

“I think having the Tim Tebow circus out of here, and having different things that were kind of holding this team back, are starting to go out the window. I think we’re all starting to care about football and only football, which is a good sight to see.”

Tebow arrived in New York via trade in 2012. It was the team's belief that he could complement Mark Sanchez, giving the offense another option at the quarterback position for wildcat packages. However, the move was terrible for the Jets and head coach Rex Ryan was forced to answer questions about the quarterback position throughout the season.

Colon thinks the Jets have finally hit their stride, and was very complimentary of Ryan.

“He can coach his tail off and that’s why you see the team play the way it’s playing. He knows how to motivate guys. He just know how to tap into whatever a guy has, getting them to respond.”

Tebow spent the 2013 preseason with the New England Patriots before being released. No NFL team has shown interest in the 26-year-old quarterback.
