Kellen Winslow suspended 4 games for PED violation

Winslow has 17 receptions for 169 yards and two touchdowns in his first season with the Jets.

The NFL has suspended New York Jets tight end Kellen Winslow Jr. for four games for a violation of the league's performance-enhancing drug policy, according to NFL Network's Albert Breer.

Winslow, 30, has tallied 17 receptions for 169 yards and two touchdowns in his first season with the Jets, but was listed as doubtful for the team's Week 6 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers after sitting out of practice all week with a knee injury.

In 2008, Winslow received a one-game suspension from former Cleveland Browns general manager Phil Savage after criticizing the team's handling of a staph infection outbreak, but the suspension was later rescinded. The PED suspension is the first of his career.

On Friday, Winslow released a statement regarding the suspension:

The sixth-overall selection in the 2004 NFL Draft, Winslow earned a trip to the Pro Bowl in 2007 after tallying 1,106 yards and five touchdowns with the Browns. He joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2009 and had a one year stint with the Patriots in 2012 that finished with only one reception for 12 yards.

Winslow will be eligible to return to the team after the team's Week 10 bye and be available for a Week 11 road game against the Buffalo Bills.
