Eugene Monroe to start for Ravens on Sunday vs. Packers

After giving him a week off to let him learn the system, the Ravens are giving Eugene Monroe the starting left tackle job on Sunday.

Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh confirmed that left tackle Eugene Monroe will be starting in Sunday's game against the Green Bay Packers. Speaking with the Baltimore Sun, Harbaugh praised Monroe's progress in practice and said, "Unless something changes, he'll be the starter at left tackle."

The Ravens acquired Monroe from the Jacksonville Jaguars for fourth and fifth round picks. He was inactive for last week's win over the Miami Dolphins as he learned the playbook, but the team feels he's now ready to start in their system.

The Jaguars drafted Monroe with their first-round pick in 2009 and he started 65 games for the team. They deemed him expendable when they drafted Luke Joeckel No. 2 overall this year, but Joeckel was lost for the year with a broken ankle shortly after moving to the left side.

Monroe will be replacing Bryant McKinnie on Joe Flacco's blind side. McKinnie sat out practice on Wednesday to heal a sore knee and isn't ruling out the possibility of being traded.
