Joique Bell injury: Lions RB hurts ribs in win vs. Browns

Detroit’s pass-catching back needed X-rays after getting crunched in Sunday’s win over Cleveland.

Detroit Lions running back Joique Bell injured his ribs in Sunday's 31-17 win over the Cleveland Browns, according to Josh Katzenstein of The Detroit News. Post-game X-rays were negative, but Bell admitted to being in a lot of pain in the locker room. The injury happened when the running back was tossed backward onto a pile during a carry.

Bell has had a productive season playing second-fiddle to free-agent signing Reggie Bush, gaining 389 yards from scrimmage and scoring three touchdowns. The fourth-year back out of Wayne State is headed toward career-highs in all major categories and has already doubled his career touchdown total.

After going undrafted, Bell bounced around as a benchwarmer and practice squad member with four teams. The Lions eventually signed him in 2011 and made him part of their rushing attack in 2012. Bell is especially important as a backup to Bush, who has missed 21 games in his seven-year career.
