Chiefs set new Guinness world record for stadium noise

The Seahawks’ noise record didn’t last long. Kansas City broke it just four weeks later.

The Kansas City Chiefs improved to 6-0 on the season, and have a new record to call their own. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Arrowhead Stadium has set the world record for loudest outdoor sporting event during Sunday's win over the Oakland Raiders.

The previous record lasted less than a month. The Seattle Seahawks set the record during a Sept. 15 win over the San Francisco 49ers at CenturyLink Field. The noise level was recorded at 136.6 decibels during that game, breaking a two-year-old record held by a Turkish soccer stadium. Kansas City ended up beating that level with 137.5 decibels.

Arrowhead Stadium is renowned for having one of the best game day atmospheres in football, and Chiefs fans will no doubt be proud of this achievement. It helps that their team is giving them plenty to cheer about. On the other hand, Seahawks fans pride themselves on their noise levels and the 12th Man, so don’t be surprised if this escalates into a noise arms race over the coming weeks.
