Broncos vs. Jaguars odds: Jacksonville covers largest point spread in NFL history

The Jaguars lost again on Sunday, but they made gamblers happy by covering a historically large spread.

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

The Jacksonville Jaguars haven't had much to cheer about this season, and are now 0-6 after an expected loss to the Denver Broncos. Still, for at least one day, they have some bragging rights in Vegas by covering a historic point spread.

The Broncos entered the game as 27-point favorites according to OddsShark, the largest spread in NFL history. About halfway through the first quarter, it looked like they would have no trouble covering that when Peyton Manning jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead. Jacksonville's defense clamped down, or at least as much as you can clamp Manning down. Two field goals and a pick-six later, the Broncos went into halftime up by just two points.

Denver would pull away in the second half thanks to three rushing touchdowns by Knowshon Moreno, but the Jaguars never let it get out of hand. A Maurice Jones-Drew touchdown was the last score they had, but it was enough to beat the spread. Denver won by "only" 16 points, 35-19, and Jacksonville made some people in Vegas very rich tonight.

The Jaguars host the San Diego Chargers next week. The betting lines haven't opened yet, but Vegas might be more cautious than normal this time, even though the Jaguars are still 1-5 against the spread this year.
