Brandon Weeden will remain Browns starting quarterback

Browns head coach Rob Chudzinski says there have been no discussions about replacing Brandon Weeden as the team’s starter.

A three-game winning streak for the Cleveland Browns came to an end on Sunday with a 31-17 loss to the Detroit Lions, but head coach Rob Chudzinski told the media on Monday that quarterback Brandon Weeden will remain the team's starter and that there have been no discussions of Jason Campbell taking over the role.

Weeden, who turned 30 on Monday, has an 0-3 record as a starter in 2013, with five interceptions and four touchdowns. In Sunday’s loss, he completed 26-of-43 passes for 292 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.

“Brandon played well in spurts,” Chudzinski said on Monday. “It’s a matter of cutting out the critical mistakes.”

Particularly critical was an interception thrown by Weeden with under five minutes remaining. Down 24-17, the Browns had a chance to tie the game, but a ill-advised backhand flip to a receiver on the sideline was easily picked off by DeAndre Levy.

Weeden and Browns will look to get back on track in Week 7 with a road game against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. The Packers rank No. 28 in the NFL in passing defense.
