Jimmy Graham injury: Saints TE has MRI on foot

Jimmy Graham will undergo an MRI on Monday to determined the extent of the ankle injury he suffered during the Saints’ loss to the Patriots in Week 6.

Mark L. Baer-USA TODAY Sports

Jimmy Graham will undergo an MRI on his foot Monday, according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport. Graham suffered an apparent ankle injury during the fourth quarter of the New Orleans Saints' loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday.

Graham was able to return to the field briefly after getting taped up by training staff on the sideline. He did not stay on the field long, however, going back to the locker room for the final five minutes of the game while the Saints were on offense, clinging to a one-point lead. It is difficult to discern whether Graham will miss extended playing time. The MRI should give a better picture of the tight end’s long-term status.

Even after being held without a reception against the Patriots, Graham still leads all players in the NFL with 593 yards receiving through six games. His six touchdown receptions are tied for the third-most in the league. Graham is a threat to break Rob Gronkowski’s single-season records for touchdowns and receiving yards by a tight end if he stays healthy.
