Rams vs. Texans 2013: Houston hits ‘rock bottom’ in loss

The Texans dropped a fourth straight game on Sunday with a 38-13 loss to the St. Louis Rams.

The Houston Texans' three-game losing streak was supposed to end with a Week 6 game against the lowly St. Louis Rams, but instead it was a fourth straight loss for the Texans, as they were dominated, 38-13, at home.

After the game, TexansDC of SB Nation’s Texans blog, Battle Red Blog, called the loss “rock bottom” for the defending AFC South champions, and said it was another example of the team beating itself:

It’s the same story as it has been all season. The Houston Texans are 4-2 in beating themselves this year. This team, this veteran team, inexcusably just cannot get out of their own way. Penalties ending drives, penalties extending drives of their opponents, blown coverages, missed tackles, interceptions, fumbles, and bad play calling.
People keep looking for reasons why this team is struggling, but it’s the entire team’s problem. There’s some talent deficient areas, some outdated coaching schemes, and talent that has regressed and is getting frustrated.

The reaction for Rams fans was the opposite, as expected. After a rough start to the season against tough competition, the Rams earned a second straight victory and Joe Mazzi of SB Nation’s Rams blog, Turf Show Times, was impressed, to say the least:

The St. Louis Rams, in every facet of the game, looked like a winning football team. Penalties were, mostly, eliminated, while enthusiasm and attitude flooded the team’s sideline.
You were proud to be a Rams fan.
On the road, Bradford and the youngest team in football dismantled their opposition. Posting a near-perfect passer rating and trusting a reliable run game, the Rams’ quarterback move the ball well against a threatening defense. St. Louis’ own defense, while unexpectedly gashed by an elite rushing attack, fought hard and proved competent in the most crucial of circumstances.

The Rams will look to make it three in a row in a Week 7 road game against the Carolina Panthers, while the Texans will look to shake their losing streak with a road game against the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs.
