Hakeem Nicks trade rumors: Giants will to listen, but not shopping WR

With New York 0-6 and Hakeem Nicks scheduled to become a free agent after the season, the team is willing to listen to trade offers for the wide receiver.

Hakeem Nicks has been the subject of trade rumors recently and while the Giants aren't actively shopping the wide receiver, they are willing to listen to offers, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN via Rotoworld.

Nicks is in the last year of his contract and is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent after the season. With New York dropping to 0-6 on the season and having already invested in wide receiver Victor Cruz, it makes sense to at least listen to offers.

Several teams are reportedly interested in Nicks, including the Atlanta Falcons and San Francisco 49ers. A few other teams could also be interested, since several contenders lack production from their wide receivers. After being plagued by injuries last year, Nicks is off to a very strong start this season with 25 receptions and 442 yards. His 17.7 yards per reception are the highest of his career. Although teams are interested, the 25-year-old Nicks said he is focused on the Giants. Via Big Blue View:

New York Giants' wide receiver Hakeem Nicks has heard the trade rumors. He is trying, however, to keep his mind on helping the Giants turn things around after their abysmal 0-6 start.

"I'm a Giant, and that's the only thing I can focus on right now," Nicks said after the Giants' practice Monday morning. "I'm a Giant, and I love playing for the Giants. I'm a Giant right now, and I'm going to stand strong on that."

If the Giants did receive an offer they were interested in, they would first have to do some roster maneuvering to make a deal work. Trading Nicks would create $1.94 million in dead money against New York’s 2013 salary cap and the Giants currently have $584,000 in salary cap space, according to Spotrac.com.

If a deal is gong to happen, it will likely happen soon with the NFL trade deadline coming up on Oct. 29.
