Eagles vs. Buccaneers 2013: ‘Fire Greg Schiano’

Tampa Bay is 0-5 and Bucs fans are not very happy with Greg Schiano.

Al Messerschmidt

It's been a rough season on and off the field for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the struggles continued on Sunday with a 31-20 loss to Philadelphia. The Bucs are now one of three winless teams in the NFL, and Sunday's defeat was enough for some fans to call for the firing of Greg Schiano.

Sander Philipse of Bucs Nation has seen enough and said the time has come for the team to get rid of Schiano:

Greg Schiano deserves to be fired. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost their fifth consecutive game and look like a worse team every week. They have looked like a bad season of As The World Turns this year, and the focus has been on off-field nonsense even though we have plenty of on-field insanity to talk about

"I believe it's a well-coached football team," Greg Schiano said after today's game. "Not well enough. There are certain things we have to get done consistently. We'll get this done in one game and this done in another game, but we're not getting it all together. That may frustrate some. But I'd tell ya if I didn't think we were doing a good job. We need to be better. So obviously it starts with me, goes through my assistant coaches and then through every player on the team."

A well-coached team? An 0-5 team either lacks talent or coaching. A casual glance at the team's roster will tell you it's not the talent. Darrelle Revis, Gerald McCoy, Lavonte David, Mark Barron, Dashon Goldson, Mason Foster, Donald Penn, Carl Nicks, Mike Williams, Doug Martin and a slew of pretty good players to help them. How could it not be the coaching?

Most of the Bucs Nation community agrees with 92 percent of the voters saying Schiano should be fired, including 81 percent who say he should be fired immediately.

It's safe to say Philadelphia fans are much happier with the Eagles' head coach. Chip Kelly has the Eagles at 3-3 and tied atop the NFC East. Philadelphia has also posted some impressive numbers through the first six games of the Kelly era, as Brandon Lee Gowton of Bleeding Green Nation wrote:

The Eagles offense is something special. Chip Kelly is looking like a great hire. Look at these numbers

2nd team in NFL history to accumulate 1,500 passing yards & 1050 rushing yards through the first 6 games of the season

2699 total net yards - highest total in franchise history and 6th highest in NFL history through 6 games

3rd team in NFL history to pile up at least 400 yards of total offense in each of their first 6 games

First time the Eagles have ever had six straight games with at least 400 yards

Those numbers are literally historical. And to think, this is just Year 1. Chip Kelly sure has some talented players on the roster, but the truth is a number of these players aren't "his guys". Chip doesn't has an unquestioned franchise QB in place. Players like Jason Avant, Brent Celek, and Riley Cooper all hold value in their own roles but they are not ideal long term Kelly players. They can and will be upgraded upon. When you think about it, this is scary, because it means the Eagles offense has room to improve.
