Greg Schiano says Buccaneers are ‘going to be good’

The Buccaneers haven’t won a game in 2013, but the team’s head coach is preaching patience to fans.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers haven't yet earned a win in the 2013 season, but that evidently hasn't put a damper on the optimism of head coach Greg Schiano, who told fans on Monday that the team is "going to be good."

At his press conference on Monday, Schiano preached patience for fans that have been frustrated with the team’s disastrous start that has featured quarterback drama, staph infection outbreaks and zero wins. Via Sander Philipse of Bucs Nation:

“If they hang in there, we’re going to be good.” Schiano said in Monday’s press conference. “If they can’t [hang in there], we’re still going to be good and then they’re welcomed back. I’m not being smart, I mean that. I think our fans are great. When I came out to start the game, warm-ups, our fans were awesome. At the end of the game, I’m disappointed like they are. I understand anything and everything, that’s disappointment. And the fact our fans care as much as they do, I think that’s awesome. When we get it turned, it’s going to be really special.”

With 11 seasons between now and the team’s last postseason victory, patience is a tough sell for Buccaneers fans. In fact, anything from the mouth of Schiano has become a tough sell, as many are hoping that the second-year coach isn’t kept around much longer.

Through five games, the Buccaneers have allowed the tenth fewest points per game and earned three of their five losses by a combined six-point margin. With young talent on both sides of the ball, the Buccaneers might have good times on the way, but the question is whether or not Schiano will be around to see them. Philpse isn’t counting on it.

The Buccaneers will again look for their first win of the season in Week 7 when they travel to face the Atlanta Falcons.
